QuiltCon 2024: A Recap

QuiltCon 2024: Teaching
QuiltCon 2024: My Quilts
QuiltCon 2024: Goodies

I attended my 8th QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC this year in mid February, and it was a blast, as usual!

I received a last minute request to fill in to teach a few classes on precision piecing, so I taught three workshops featuring precision piecing with a few techniques. The classes went well and they reminded me how much I enjoyed teaching, even though I had put that on pause due to my work commitments. I enjoy sharing the "AHA!" moments with my students as they pick up a new skill that they will [hopefully] carry on their creative journey.

In addition to teaching, I enjoyed catching up with many quilty friends despite the fact that I've been out of the social media world for a while. I came away with a refreshed appreciation of the quilty community - there are so many creative people who participate in this growing modern quilting world!

The Quilts

There's always such a variety in quilts at QuiltCon, represented in a number of categories. Below is a snapshot of a few of those quilts. My brain definitely got overwhelmed at some point by all the visual stimulation, so I'm sharing just a portion of the awesome quilts.

The Quilt Category Breakdown

If you've followed me before, you know I've tracked QuiltCon categories throughout the years. Credit again goes to quilter Caroline Hadley for these numbers!

Take what you'd like from these numbers - I think it's interesting to see the numbers fluctuate over the years but I'm not sure there's much to learn from the numbers if you are interested in getting quilts in the show. Given my experience on the QuiltCon jury, categories do not have a hard limit on acceptances per each category, however, there can be fatigue in category jury rating if there is a huge amount for that category - the acceptance count is a holistic QuiltCon show number. But things can always change there!

2024 Breakdown (469 total)

2023 Breakdown (471 total)

2022 Breakdown (481 total)

2021 Breakdown (340 total)

2020 Breakdown (428 total)

2019 Breakdown (387 total)

Thanks for Stopping By!

I hope you enjoyed my brief recap! I did pick up a second place in minimalism too (shown here), but that seemed to be a cherry-on-top of all the other enjoyment and fulfillment I got out of QuiltCon. I was pretty surprised this quilt was awarded a ribbon - I thought one of my other quilts was more likely to receive an award, but you never know!!

Next year, QuiltCon is in Phoenix again, and I plan to attend. I hope you do too!
